SES Celebrates 10 years of service with Fortune 100 NATIONAL Mortgage Banker

SES has been providing quality consultants to this mortgage lender for over 10 years.  Our consultants have filled many roles for them; Project Manager, Team Leader, Business Analyst, Technical Lead, and Senior Programmer Analysts.  Some of the various projects and technologies that SES consultants were fortunate enough to be associated with include:

  • Supporting an existing risk management system for our Client’s residential mortgages while developing its replacement system using SQL Windows and Sybase in a UNIX and IBM mainframe environment.

  • Managing a client/server development project for this banking organization’s variable compensation system for sales personnel.  The system was developed in Powerbuilder, C, and Sybase on a UNIX platform.  The development team consisted of five people (including the project manager) working in all phases of the project’s life cycle including; gathering requirements, analysis, design, construction, testing, implementation, documentation, client training, and production support.

  • Defining user needs, writing functional and data requirements, and detail designs for a major enhancement to a CICS loan processing system.  SES also provided analytical and programming support for the on-line system.

  • Developing a web-based, report ordering system with a front-end written in HTML and JavaScript and a back-end written SAS, Cobol, SQL, and JCL.  The system also included an e-mail delivery system that ran on OS/390 and Open-MVS with queries against a UDB/DB2 Corporate Data Warehouse.  Once in production, SES consultants provided 24-hour on-call support for the corporation’s processing and reporting systems. SES also provided training to other consultants and users.

  • Providing critical support for a credit enhancement system and risk based costing systems.  SES guided the technical team on this project and was involved in rewriting the interfaces to ten different legacy systems residing on multiple platforms (Mainframe, UNIX, LAN).  Being responsible for the mainframe team as well, our SE’s performed user interviews, lead meetings, made presentations, composed interoffice memos, complex systems/function/data analysis, developed business requirements and technical design documents, coordinated the efforts of the other mainframe consultants, coded, Q&A tested, authored technical documentation, and implemented system migration.

  • Analyzing requirements, developing and testing a software system that automates the process of applying for Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI).  The system is written in the C programming language and runs under the Sun’s Solaris 2.3 operating system.  The system used the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standard for data transfer.  Specific duties and contributions included the following:

    • Creation of a system test plan used to test communication and data transfer functionality between our Client and its partner MI companies.

    • Creation of dummy test data, using Sybase version 10, to be used by the partner MI companies in testing their EDI translation functionality.

    • Execution of the aforementioned test plan for the communications programs that are used to communicate with the PMI companies.

    • Creation of “C” programs used to format the data that is forwarded to the communication programs, as well as programs used to read the data that is received from the communication programs.

    • Creation of a software system used in the development and system testing that simulates the responses of real MI companies.

  • Providing Sr. Programmer/Analysts for the development, design, and production support of multiple systems for this Client.  These systems utilized COBOL, IMS, DB2, Store Procedures, JCL/PROCS, SAS, and VSAM.

  • Our consultants have helped manage and test various mainframe based systems including performing all phases of unit, batch and online system testing within a MVS/IDMS mainframe, JCL and COBOL environment.  SES consultants applied existing test procedures and scripts, methodologies, and system testing tools to achieve and maintain system quality.

  • Utilized CA7 to manage, track, and execute large volumes of test scripts needed to test other systems for all conditions/events in proper sequence.

  • Backup, restore, and age database, data and/or files.

  • Defined test parameters, JCL, libraries, data set names, and job streams via TSO/ISPF and FILEAID.

  • Provided predefined and customized user reports and files.

  • Automated testing solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of the test environment.

  • Trained or mentored newcomers on the fundamentals of system testing.

  • SES also assisted this Client with in their Y2K emergency assessment to reassess their LASER database’s COBOL code for non-compliance.

SES Migrates F500 Lending Organization to Client/Server Platform…

Challenge:

As the repercussions of surviving Y2K disappeared, the massive injection of expanded applications capabilities took over the focus of every business organization and retaining market positioning became the focus of all capital investment establishments.  To adequately respond to the international and domestic wire transfer expectations and lending requirements, this organization came to SES for help in determining whether they should move their mainframe applications over to a client/server platform, or off-load the entire operation to a facilities management company.

Solution:

SES worked in collaborating with our Client’s executives to research and evaluate both options.  For the facilities management option, SES interviewed, evaluated, and critiqued proposal from several vendors.  We developed a cost and benefit aptitude guide for the executives to use to credibly compare the prospective vendors.  SES played a crucial role in the migration to a client/server platform.  In the best interest of our Client, SES researched and evaluated products from companies that were considered leaders in client/server technology.

Benefit:

After evaluating several different solutions SES selected the best option, then originated and delivered an optimal business plan that would allow this organization to successfully make such a move.  As part of the business plan, SES also compiled a comprehensive financial section that compared the client/server solution against all of the facility management solutions.

National Lending Organization Taps SES for … Resources

SES has provided quality consultants to this lending organization to work on the following projects for many years.  Some of the projects we have partnered on, with this national lending organization encompass numerous mission critical applications.

SES helped develop their Florida Abandoned Properties (FLAP) system.  The system supports compliance with the contractual agreement between our Client and the State of Florida Abandoned Property Department (SFAPD) to fulfill statutory obligations regarding the disposition of abandoned property for which SFAPD is responsible.  SES consultants performed tasks such as analysis, design, programming, testing and documentation of numerous system components.  Our consultants were also responsible for mentoring intermediate level staff in the use of CICS and DB2.  The system was developed using CICS Command-Level DB2, and COBOL II on an Amdahl mainframe under MVS/XA.

SES provided consultants that supported the Portfolio Sales & Servicing System, version 3.x (PortSS III).  The Port SS III system was written in SQL and used to create a myriad of reports that display different loan, lender, and borrower information.  SES consultant developed and executed new test plans, analyzed issues raised by the user community as they related to existing and newly released reports, and he trained and mentored junior staff.  The development and execution of the test plans was done under Microsoft Windows NT ver. 3.51 and 4.0.

SES provided another consultant that lead a project team in the analysis, design, and development of Sallie Mae’s Load Consolidation System (LCSII).  The task for this project consisted of the following:

  • Created DB2 tables
  • Created several interactive CICS screens and COBOL programs using DB2
  • Developed DB2 batch reporting programs
  • Created the JCL and PROC job streams to execute the LCSII project programs
  • Wrote the system’s documentation
  • Supervised the unit testing effort for the project
  • Supported QA testing and the installation of the LCSII programs into production
